We are delighted to invite you to the final Hamburg lecture in our 
*Ahimsa Lecture Series*:


      *Ahiṃsā in Non-Dualist Śaivism*

In non-dualist Śaiva traditions, ahiṃsā is neither treated as an 
absolute moral imperative nor regarded as a direct means to liberation. 
In this lecture, Somadeva Vasudeva will explore how these traditions 
negotiate the relationship between violence, nonviolence, karmic 
retribution, yogic meditation, and spiritual liberation. He will also 
examine how the tension between violence and nonviolence is ultimately 
resolved through the doctrine of unrestricted autonomy, /svātantryavāda/.

Somadeva Vasudeva is Professor of Indian Philosophy and Transcultural 
Studies at Kyoto University and an internationally renowned scholar of 
Sanskrit, tantric and theistic traditions of yoga, Indian philosophy, 
poetry, and aesthetics.
