The Yoga System of Patañjali

This book contains a translation of the Pātañjalayogaśāstra, i.e. the Yogasūtra ascribed to Patañjali and its primary commentary, Yogabhāṣya, of disputed authorship, and its most popular subcommentary, the Tattvavaiśāradī of Vācaspati Miśra. The translation is technically a very accurate one, within the limitations of the Sanskrit text of the edition Woods has used (Agase 1904). Woods’ language however is an Early-20th-century English, and his translations of technical terms do not reflect modern choices. Thus in the present time his book is useful mostly for those who want to read the text in Sanskrit and need some help with the structure of the sentences.
